Today’s Kabbalah lecture

Those of you who did not avail yourself of the Kabbalah lecture this morning missed a treat. Well for me it was a treat, though I’m unsure whether it answered questions or created other questions. The talk on the commandments was interesting – the 10 commandments relate to the 10 Sephiroth. Now how do they relate? This was not mentioned but I have been giving it some thought and it seems to me that the first commandment – I AM the Lord thy God, thou shalt not have other Gods before me is related to Malkuth, the first Sephiroth.

The second sephiroth – from the bottom is Yesod which means foundation and is related to the seat of the soul chakra though I’m not sure which commandment relates to this one. What was interesting was that commandments 1 to 5 are related to the Mother or female and 6 to 10 are related to the Father or male. The first 5 commandments are wordy compared to the last five commandments which are short statements. This could be because the first five commandments are more important.

They are wordy to give more information and ensure understanding (Binah). The next 5 are in essence, as important but in execution possibly not so much. It would be good if we had more information on the relationship of the commandments to the sephiroth, perhaps that will be coming up. It was intriguing to learn that Elijah assumed the prophecy position because it brought the hands and all the sephiroth into proximity with the mind. I had the image of him sitting with his head between his knees and I thought, wow these people really lived their religion, even to the positions of the hands.

The Law was given to benefit us. It was all for our benefit but a large proportion ignored them especially today. The beauty of the study of the Kabbalah, to me, is that if you stick with one bit – I know – it does become tedious but is that the outer creation that finds it tedious  and so there is a habit to get rid of. If you stay with one piece and mediate on it the best you know how, once you understand it, you get given another piece to study and meditate upon. Possibly you do not understand how to meditate on let’s say a number 22 which Lanello said to meditate upon.

It seems pointless but really nothing is pointless. I think the seeming pointlessness puts off those who aren’t interested for there is depth in every little thing and they go down to the microscopic and beyond.
