 I was wondering if you could “dig up” some of Mother’s teachings on Euthanasia for chelas in Australia, and have it posted on the tsl.org.au website. As you probably know, many States here are debating the legalisation of Euthanasia, and many people fall into the having-sympathy energies the topic promotes. We need the teachings of the Masters available to put up the correct understanding of the subject.

What, then, is a preacher of righteousness? It is a preacher of the right use of God’s law–of the will of God and the wisdom of God, the right use of the laws of the love of God, the right use of the laws of the white-fire purity of the Divine Mother, the right use of the laws of science and of healing and of music and of all chemistry affecting the human body:  the right use of the Law, beloved!

And so, these matters come to the attention of many:  Should there be euthanasia?  Should there be mercy killing?  What to do about those who become obsessed with their Alzheimer’s disease and what the relatives are to do?

These questions plague society today.  But society answers them all too often according to the lowest common denominator of the human condition, failing to raise the level of the people to that point of the living Christ, who set the example, and therefore to judge righteous judgment, righteous mercy, mercy that is the law, the true law of ministration and service and the law itself of the alchemy of the Seventh Ray, of religion, of the priesthood and of science.

Yes, beloved, the right use of the Law must be pondered.  For incorrect decisions are being made and the people rally to these decisions, not because they are merciful unto all but because they allow themselves to gratify their senses, their need for pleasure and indulgence.  And therefore, the concept of right and wrong is that pain is wrong and pleasure is right.  And this, beloved, is not the standard of our God!

Therefore, for the whole world to see, the great avatars have allowed themselves to experience the pain of the crucifixion, subject [to death] even at the hands of their own disciples.  Thus they have shown, beloved, that pain is not an evil but a process in the alchemy of Mercy.

And where Mercy has not been extended, whether to one’s own body or to one’s own soul, there does come the occasion for pain to manifest.  But pain is a threshold and it must be endured.  It must be pierced and you must pass through it.  For the transmutation of pain in the enduring of pain is truly the passport to bliss, for those energies invested in conditions that are pain-causing are the very energies that must be withdrawn that the bliss of God might descend when the karma is balanced.

Suicide – Compilation of Ascended Master Teachings

Today there is a rash of suicide among the teenagers of this nation, and it is because the discarnates and the disembodied souls are not removed. The sheaths of the individual, the four lower bodies, must therefore be bound and the soul itself taken to the etheric octave to be given instruction concerning the laws of suicide—which are thatthe individual who commits suicide must immediately reembody to face and conquer all of the afflictions from which it thought it was escaping.

Suicide is the death of the body, but it can also be the death of the soul.  Those who commit suicide, depending on their karma and the circumstances of their death, are required by the Lords of Karma either to remain on various levels of the astral plane or to immediately reincarnate.

This they must do to balance the karma they made by committing suicide, having thereby abandoned those lifestreams for whom they were responsible. Once and for all they must learn the lesson that suicide is not a way out of one’s problems and that taking one’s life will not take the soul to Elysian fields, as the suicide demons promise, but back to square one.

Blessed hearts, we must save those who have touched the hem of our garment and yet whose hands, somehow enfeebled, are not able to clutch tightly to that garment.

There are tens of thousands who depend upon our word through the Messenger who have never affiliated with this movement. They read the books, beloved, and the magazines. Some see the videos or hear the tapes. But because they have not affiliated, because they are awakening as new shoots with no line of communication established, they do not understand when so great a Light comes upon them how great is the Darkness that will oppose that Light, that will gather round it for transmutation, as you have been taught.

Blessed ones, the annihilation ray into Annihla, begins right in the center of your heart this day as you pluck from yourself through the All-Seeing Eye of God all tendencies of indulgence that are the denial of your Christhood—whether these be physical, emotional, mental, or in the subconscious realms of the mind and memory. Realize that you must defeat the sinister force and Death and Hell before it knocks on the door, before it does come to tempt you to exit the screen of life. I say to you, begin now and cast out Death and Hell from your consciousness and see this as more important than the latest human attraction. And let there be less animal magnetism in this Community. Let God act in your life and do not so easily succumb to Death entities who come in the guise of sympathetic attractions, involvements, the tying up of one’s energy, et cetera, et cetera.

Beloved hearts, you cannot have kept from you the testings of Death and Hell. You must be ready. And it is toward this end that the Masters who have preceded me have spoken to you. I say all of this so that you may understand the point of the vow. The vow to serve Saint Germain and my cause has never been more needed, more critical, more serious. So I precede it, then, with an explanation of the Path itself.

Those not upon this Path, those not willing to aim for the balancing of 100 percent of their karma, those who would take their own way, blessed ones, though they be sincere, though they would make the vow, are not able to keep it. Better, then, to not make the karma. This, too, is a concept that has been twisted by those who say, “Well, as long as I am making bad karma, I might as well slink away in the night. It would be better for all.” And this, too, is the lie of the suicide entity. And it is cowardice!

O beloved, if you think that the eye of Morya is stern toward the coward who is on the Path, let me tell you, be ready for the eye of Saint Germain! For I have stood and seen the crimes against humanity.

Blessed ones, you have heard it said that at the point of the balance of 51 percent of your karma there is the opportunity for the ascension. And you have heard it said that the reason this is decreed by the Lords of Karma—that you may balance the remaining 49 percent from the ascended state—is that following the balancing of the 51 percent there is the initiation of the soul’s descent into Death and Hell and to the astral plane. And few have returned from that descent. So alarming was this condition, especially in the Western world, to the Lords of Karma that this dispensation was proposed and granted by the Cosmic Council.

Beloved hearts, strange as it may seem, for the chelas of the will of God it is not so difficult to reach the point of the 51-percent balance, given that this is a son or daughter of God who has diligently striven lifetime after lifetime. Thus, it is important to be conscious when one is beyond that mark. For there are some who in descending into the astral plane to take those initiations beyond that point have in fact succumbed to a suicide of a spiritual magnitude or taken the left-handed path.

How can this be? It is because of the strong delusion of Hell itself and all of its hordes that play upon and prey upon the untransmuted substance and the bedrock of the dweller on the threshold that does not easily give way to the sweeping winds of the Holy Spirit that have blown away the lesser debris. One cannot emphasize enough to one’s chelas the intensity of this delusion nor the difficulty of the choices of right and wrong, for they seem to converge at a razor’s edge where the wrong answer seems right and the right seems wrong or both seem correct.

Blessed ones, happy is the man who arrives at that point of the balance of karma who has also diligently pursued self-mastery. You have heard it said that to balance karma does not necessarily make for attainment. At a certain point this is not true but at early stages you may literally have so much devotion to the violet flame and service that you may balance karma without attention to the detail of an accompanying self-mastery—a governing of those conditions which are easy to overlook, especially when there is not a Messenger or the Guru present to point them out to you.

So, beloved, pray for vision, for enlightenment, for purity of heart; for nothing can be hidden or withheld from the pure in heart. Contemplate, then, the mystery ofpurity of heart—guilelessness, a spontaneous championing of the true cause of all of one’s fellows. Blessed ones, purity of heart is much, much more than form or mores. It is profound indeed.

Let none construe any of my words as license to set aside the letter of the Law. For the spirit does not replace the letter but it accompanies it, as they go hand in hand. But let all construe from my words that the letter of the Law will never suffice for the entering in. For this entering is achieved by a grid which is filled with Light [emanating from your Christ consciousness] by you through the living Spirit of the Law.

Trust in the Lord; and recognize that as Kuthumi gave forth the Word in the Theosophical Society to Sinnett, the greatest enemy of the disciple on the Path is fear and doubt–doubt of oneself and one’s ability to attain, doubt of the teacher and doubt of the teaching.  Diabolical enemies!  Diabolical, I say!  For once you set your foot upon the Path, to turn back is suicide.  To let down is to cease to exist, for that upward spiral goes higher and higher.  While you are still in the marshlands and at the level of the earth, earthy, there is time to hop off and you will not feel the pain of the fall.  But when you ascend stories high, higher than your highest skyscrapers, into the realm of Hierarchy and then hop off, how great is the fall!  The plummeting into the astral consciousness is inevitable.

Therefore we have laws.  Therefore we have codes of conduct.  And these are for the preservation of your very soul!  Without the Law as the protective forcefield, as the fence, the guardrail on the great spiral, you might find yourself tottering off as you reach those dizzying heights where the Cosmic Christ Consciousness is attained.

Death Penalty – Ascended Master Teachings from the Pearls of Wisdom

You will see then how your own Supreme Court has gone back and forth on many issues over the years and only today has come forth the announcement of the Supreme Court affirming the death penalty in the United States. There has been great discussion concerning this. They feel compelled to give forth this edict because of the rising crime in America. They have seen that unless there is the ultimate deterrent, there is more and more crime. They have understood that this decision was necessary.

I am here that I ratify this decision for another reason, and that reason is this–it comes more closely into the reflection of cosmic law. You understand that cosmic law also provides for the death penalty in the second death before the Court of the Sacred Fire on Sirius where there are those souls who are absolutely incorrigible, who will not glorify God, who have spent all of their energy on darkness. When their time is up, they pass through the second death. They stand on the dais where the currents of Alpha and Omega are manifest, and there that identity is canceled out.

Now what do you think this does to the rest of the evolutions of the cosmos? It is the same goad to righteousness which you find in your own death penalty. As you sit here knowing the Law, knowing that you do not have forever a day, and a day to while away the hours and to waste God’s energy, knowing that there is a judgment, then you are spurred to righteousness. And some among mankind likewise need that threat much closer–of course in their own lifetime–that if they commit these heinous crimes against the Mother and her children, against the body of God upon earth, that they will have to give an accounting.

We see, then, that justice at work in this hour of turmoil and chaos necessitates this law being ratified and implemented by the states. You see, the Lords of Karma realize that the soul that goes through that ultimate punishment will be given very quickly an opportunity to reincarnate. And on the record of that soul will be that record of the judgment and that knowledge (that) if you fail, this is what happens. We desire to see that recorded.

And, therefore, we repeat with Christ, fear not those who kill the body but those (who) are able to destroy the soul in hell. And I tell you many souls of these fallen ones who have committed these crimes, who are in the prisons today, are rotting away because they had not had that edict of the descent of their karma. And so, the bodies are preserved and the souls rot away. Would it not be better if the reverse were so? Therefore, this is that explanation.

As you know from the Great Divine Director, the Karmic Board approves of the death penalty, for it represents a lesson to souls: that if they continue to take life, life will be taken from them. It teaches them that the end of the road of their activity is the second death; and by losing that physical life and being reborn again, they have the deepest record in their soul to reinforce in them the will to resist the marauding entities of evil that take over their temples to destroy life.

Beloved hearts, ultimately they will be judged and ultimately they must face the ultimate penalty of the second death. Therefore, let compassion on earth be the concern that when souls have been the instruments of darkness to take the life of others, their lives themselves must be forfeited. These lessons are, then, well learned.

And in days when the law was in the hands of those who swiftly meted out justice–murderers, then, being sentenced immediately by the will of the people and the will of those in power–we have seen the record, time and again, that they have reembodied, repented of their ways, and gone on to attain to the glory of God. But those who are allowed to continue in society, living out their lives for decades, becoming more and more possessed and more and more integrated with the spirals of hell—these, blessed hearts, return to embodiment without any sense of chastisement or of the penalty of murder itself. And therefore they kill and kill again and ultimately their souls are not saved.

Then there are the laws of the land that reflect the code and the dispensation of Noah for the preservation of life, whereby these laws must involve capital punishment and the death sentence when those who have taken life and are not in any way penitent and come under the designation required of the law do pass from the screen of life, as we have explained to you before from the heart of the Lords of Karma and the Great Divine Director. In this instance, this form of execution comes about as the ultimate lesson to the soul—who may swiftly reincarnate and learn the lesson of this foul crime of murder or the taking of life.

Blessed ones, the new beginning is the only hope for such individuals. And the only lesson whereby they may be deterred from the same crime again is to know the loss of their own life.

Pearls of Wisdom Vol. 26 No. 23 Beloved Archangel Uriel June 5, 1983

Beloved ones of Light, I speak to you in this hour, then, that you might understand that it is not the “death” of the seed of the wicked, but it is the removal of their momentum and the layers of their darkness and their karma that is essential. The passing from the screen of life of the body itself is of little consequence unless all that is behind it—in this case, the black sun that they have fashioned through the misuse of the Light—is also taken.

And therefore, let us work diligently at inner levels for the binding and the judgment of the “dweller on the threshold”—which means the entire momentum of the anti-self of these fallen ones. When that is judged and bound, then there is very little left that can operate against the good of society, save the shell itself, which [nonetheless] may become occupied by new possessing demons or by astral forces or extraterrestrial forces.

Therefore, ultimately the individual himself must suffer that judgment. But we are not standing here in advocacy of calling for the death penalty for individuals. We are advocating the call of the judgment, which is the binding of the momentum of evil. For that momentum itself is the darkness which is used by those who have the intent to destruction. When the momentum is removed and when those of virtue fill their [own] bodies and the planetary home with Light, you see, the mouthpiece of Absolute Evil then becomes no more significant than an ant or a colony of ants.

Beloved hearts, understand therefore that the equation is one of proportion and commeasurement. Thus, we advocate the clearing of the astral plane itself and of the worst of these forces and of the worst of the momentum, as I have said.

Beloved ones, this is the best and highest solution that can be offered in this hour, given the state of the earth. And this is the deliberation of the Cosmic Council and of the Four and Twenty Elders and the Council of the God Star Sirius.

“Thou shalt not take life!” Exod.  20:13; 21:12, 14, 20-23; Lev.  24:17, 21; Num.  35:16-24, 30, 31; Deut.  19:11-13; Matt.  5:21; Rev.  13:10.

In Buddhism, the first of the Ten Precepts is translated as “Refrain from destroying life.” According to the doctrine of the Jains, who strictly adhere to the Eastern principle of ahimsa (harmlessness, non-injury, non-killing of life), even the unintentional killing of an ant through carelessness may have severe consequences on the soul.  The foundation of Hindu law is the Code or Institutes of Manu, an ancient collection of laws based on custom, precedent and the teachings of the Vedas.  This highly revered code defined the rules of conduct and their application to all the classes of the community.  According to the code, the taking of life warranted the death penalty in order to reduce violence in society by deterring others from committing the same crime and to allow for expiation of sin.

Ascended Master Teaching on Prolonging Life, Life Support, Organ Donation, Blood Transfusion, Pacemakers, Heart Transplants and Related Medical Topics

Prolonging Life

It is important that we remain in physical embodiment as long as God intends us to be here.  For it is here that we have made our karma and it is here that we must balance it—in the physical octave.  Anything which takes us out of embodiment in an untimely manner must be seen as the enemy of the True Self.

Mother does not offer medical advice to her students but she does tell us that the Ascended Masters encourage us to use any means which is lawful to prolong our life and therefore our opportunity to balance karma.  None of us knows when we have balanced enough karma to make our ascension.  She says that we should fight death as the last enemy and not give in until God indicates to us that it is our time to pass on.

While you have life and breath, offer your life to God and give it for the balancing of karma for yourself and for others on the planet.  At the same time we must use our attunement.  If it is our time or our relatives time to move on then we accept it when the angels come to set us free.

We are not required to prolong our life beyond that which it is intended. If one’s physical body is no longer functional, when one’s brain, mind and mental state is no longer functioning, it is not required for life support to be used to prolong life.

The messenger has said, “When God takes away the breath of life, when the brain is no longer functioning, when someone is pronounced clinically dead, there is not the necessity for heroic measures to sustain that life because of its own accord the body has already ceased its major functions.”

One helpful guideline to consider is whether a medical condition is reversible or not. If the medical condition is terminal and not reversible then life support is usually not indicated. If however the condition is considered reversible and treatable then life support can be a life saver. The person can return to normal and continue their life with a life extension. Usually these situations are fairly clear. Prayer and discernment as well as medical and spiritual advice can help one to make a decision if the decision is not an obvious one.

Difference between Life Support and Euthanasia

On March 1, 1992, Mother gave a lecture on suicide. In it she drew a distinction between suicide and the appropriate withdrawal of life support which gives helpful teaching about life support.

She spoke of Kevorkian and others who promote “mercy killing.” She did not approve of mercy killing or euthanasia which she defined in the following way:

“I am talking about killing someone who is very much alive and well, though perhaps infirm with a terminal disease, that requires no life-support system, no breathing machine, nothing to sustain that life, people who are living on their own whom God has not called.

“When God takes away the breath of life, when the brain is no longer functioning, when someone is pronounced clinically dead, there is not the necessity for heroic measures to sustain that life because of its own accord the body has already ceased its major functions.”

A panel discussion on 8-10-91 included a number of ministers speaking on the subject of suicide. During this, Mother gave a lengthy account of the passing of Mark Prophet and of her decision to turn off the life-support machines that he was on.

Do Not Ignore Medical Care

The Messenger is extremely practical.  She encourages all of her students to seek medical advice and care when indicated.  Mother even recommends that we seek second and third opinions from surgeons or medical practitioners.           We must always remember that God also uses doctors and medical science to heal his sons and daughters.  The skills and techniques which they have are also gifts from God. Antibiotics, surgery and modern medicine have saved the lives of many people in our organization who have had accidents and illnesses, including cancer.  They were then able to go on, to live their lives for God, balance their karma and make their ascension.

Consider carefully your doctor’s advice.  If medication, psychotherapy, chemotherapy, surgery or other treatment is indicated then this may also be in divine order.

Mother has told us that surgery can also be ordained by God as a way of dealing with our karma.  It is important to get expert medical advice and more than one opinion if necessary.

Mother does not give people specific instructions on what to do for their particular illness or situation since she does not know the cause of their illness, past history, et cetera.

Health Practitioners Do Not need to be Part of Our Organization

Your health professionals do not have to be part of this organization.  You do not even need to mention your religious beliefs.  You are seeking their medical expertise.  Give them the information they need about your physical and/or mental condition that they need in order to diagnose and prescribe treatment for your condition.  If you like, you may want to let them know that you have a strong faith in God and in the power of prayer.  Most doctors also believe in God and prayer.

Using Spiritual Techniques to Assist in Healing

At the same time you can pursue the healing through all of the spiritual techniques which you know.  The Archangels are also the cosmic surgeons who work with the physical body.  Ask for the electronic presence of beloved El Morya to be over all those in the medical field who attend you. Mother has told us of the magnificent healing and restorative power of the seraphim.  Why not invoke their presence and give them your fears?

The science of the spoken Word and alchemy can work with traditional medical methods such as surgery or chemotherapy when these are indicated by the doctors as the method of choice.  The violet flame, the decrees to beloved Astrea and the calls to Archangel Michael will assist you greatly.

Do not neglect to use the healing thoughtform and to place it over your liver (refer to the book, The Science of the Spoken Word for teaching on the healing thoughtform of Archangel Raphael.)

To release the records and patterns of disease in your body, Mother encourages you to pray for the dissolving of the karma by the violet flame and let God and his violet flame angels deal with the cause and core of the situation.  Do the very best that you know how and leave the rest to God.  Ask for the angels to remove any karmic records which may be blocking your path to recovery.

Organ Donation

The Masters have given us instruction on the subject of organ donation.  The Masters tell us that students on the path who expect to make their ascension should not as a rule donate their organs.  There is no reason why we should not give a part of ourselves so that others might live but when we are in the ascension mode, we have to realize that a part of oneself will not be accelerated.

By offering your organs to another, you do risk living on after you would like to be in higher octaves because some part of you is living on in another person who may be in a karma-making mode.  For example, you would be making karma if you supplied an organ to a murderer or rapist who continued his crimes when he might otherwise have passed on.

You may have a loved one or child to whom you wish to donate an organ.  There is no hard and fast rule but it is important to make calls that this organ be used for the glory of God.  If the question of organ donation for a relative arises, you need to seek the attunement with your Holy Christ Self to know the right direction for you.

Blood Transfusion

From the Ascended Master view point, blood is considered to be an organ of the body, so the above principles apply.  If your blood is transfused into another’s body it is like an organ donation.  The main difference is that the blood only lasts a certain amount of time in the body before it is broken down to its components.  Blood is being created and destroyed in the body as a continuous process and the blood has a certain lifecycle.

To donate blood could be karma making or karma balancing depending on the situation and the use to which the person receiving the blood makes use of the life extension which they are given.  Again your own attunement is needed.  Make calls that the blood be used to the glory of God. In general the Ascended Masters do not recommend that their students donate blood. The case of a relative bears your own meditation and consideration.

If you need to have a blood transfusion to save your life or to treat your medical or surgical condition then of course you may do so. Many persons in our organization have received a transfusion of blood that has saved their life.

For an elective procedure it is preferable that you donate your own blood ahead of time to be used at the time of surgery. The next best choice is the blood of a fellow ascended master student or soul of light if this person whose blood is compatible can be found.

In an emergency situation this may not be possible or practical. Make the specific calls for the purification of the blood of all impurities of the blood that is being transfused into your body.

Mother has commented on the use of pacemakers for staff and Keepers of the Flame.  She has said that they are a wondrous gift of Saint Germain’s science for the prolonging of life through his marvelous technology.  She also said that the pacemaker does not have any affect on the heart flame, the threefold flame.  Therefore, you may conclude that the transplanting of a physical heart is also a gift from God but does not interfere with the heart chakra or the threefold flame.

Heart Transplants

People often ask what happens to the threefold flame when there is a heart transplant.  Mark Prophet answered this in Discourses on Cosmic Law Album IV “The Threefold Flame and Identity.”  He said:

“In the case of a heart transplant, the threefold flame of course remains with the individual because it is a part of the etheric octave.  All of the organs of the body are only a manifestation in the physical plane.  If you do transplant an organ, you still have the same etheric record.

Autopsy

An autopsy should not be performed on a Keeper of the Flame unless foul play is suspected and the cause of death needs to be determined and settled.  Otherwise the body should not be disturbed.  In general as bearers of the light of Christ we do not offer our bodies for experimentation nor do we allow any tampering with the body after transition.

Embalming, Cremation and Burial

Much teaching on these subjects is found in the service manual in the section on transition.  Embalming involves the removal of the blood from the body, then replacing the blood with embalming fluids.  Sanat Kumara taught about this in the 1979 Pearls of Wisdom and it is quoted in the Services Manual. The Ascended Masters do not believe in the practice of embalming because the light is locked in the cells and atoms of the body as well as the blood.  We practice the ritual of calling for the angels to take the light and demagnetize the body.  If the blood is removed and deposited in the earth, then part of oneself is not sealed and taken to higher octaves.

The Ascended Masters teach that cremation is the recommended means of disposing of the body after transition. Several Ascended Masters have dictated about cremation. Cremation is recommended on the third day after transition.

Specific instruction for the care of the body of Keepers of the Flame upon transition through cremation is contained in the Services Manual.
