SPR Skype Meeting Sunday 29th August 2010 8pm EST
Opening Prayer Read by Robin Present Andrew , Mary , Marie , Robin , Geoff , Jenny . Apologies Donna , Glenda , Joy . Election Process and Structure for ANB . 1. What challenges and issues do we need to address ? • Divide and conquer tactics • Voting structure that is a fair representation for all the groups large or small • Become a thriving spiritual community • Become more of the Summit Lighthouse • Mary reported on the five purposes 1. Worship. Activities include services , prayer vigils and conferences. 2. Ministration and service . Activities include programs to assist members to identify their individual gifts and offer them in service to the church , community , and family. 3. Outreach . Activities include lectures ,seminars , workshops , two by two programs and any other means to reach spiritual seekers . 4. Spiritual Community . Activities to promote fellowship and community such as news letters , communication net works and programs for children and youth. 5. Spiritual Education . Activities that provide education in the teachings for adults and children of all ages e.g. SU.
• Strengths and challengers 1 . Strengths and unique gifts , talents , skills , and competencies of the community that we bring to each other , the larger church , and community . 2 . Challengers are areas that need to be strengthened , difficulties weaknesses and what ever is a road block to becoming a thriving spiritual community .
2. Does representative role of SPR work ? Some groups are happy with it, but not all KOF are represented. Sometimes there is not enough consultation with people in study groups and out in the wider community. SPR is structured to be representative , it does not always fulfil the representative role , it is difficult to achieve and we need to think about who we can better achieve this .
3. Is it fair for CSG’s with more members to have one vote ? 1. It was discussed that each state could have the opportunity to have SU on a rotational basis , so each state has a turn to host SU . 2. Voting could be modelled after senate voting 3. Mandate for SPR is to co-ordinate , send out information and promote SU. 4. Sydney , Melbourne and Brisbane are charted study groups . KOF in ACT = 4 , Tas. = 4 , WA = 11 , SA =18 , Qld = 20 , Vic = 29 , NSW = 41
Geoff spoke about having one vote per state . If there was one vote for WA, SA, Vic, Tas, NSW, ACT, NT, Qld, and youth that would be nine on the committee. If one of the state/territory positions wasn’t filled it could filter down to a 2nd person from one of the larger states. Voting would be proportional ie if 15 of the 20 people in Qld vote for the affirmative, then Qld would contribute 75% to the national vote. However this would not address the concerns from the Sydney group that they should have more than one vote as they represent so many more KOF. We want everyone to be represented and have numerical clarity. Another options is one vote per person and then it is bought back to SPR . This has the disadvantage that the smaller states would always have trouble getting a majority. Mary’s research . When we had our last voting on poledaddy only 18 people voted . If voting done it could be done at SU more people may vote. Other’s felt that they didn’t want SU to become political as it takes away for SU. 4. Reps versus what people stand for . A model which does not attempt to be representative of everyone Opportunity for people with a passion who are willing to do the work e.g. nine positions regardless of where they live with a special interest for youth. Bu still need to determine how people would vote.
