Breathing

Well everyone knows how to breathe – right? It is something you do automatically, so there is no need to learn how to breathe. This is the answer one gets from the masses. I mean, on the face of it, it is true. Then you stop to think. It is possible to breathe through the nose and also through the mouth. If you are a thinking person, you wonder why 2 ways to breathe? Trying it this morning, it occurred to me that the nose has a sort of filtering system with the hairs to trap the dust  etc. The mouth on the other hand, has no such system.

So, on the face of it, just using common sense, it would seem it is better to breathe through the nose and yet, probably a lot of people don’t. There are yogic breathing exercises called pranayama, which have special ways of breathing for special results. The back page of one book ‘The science of Breathing’ by Yogacharya Shantikumar states that “Of all bodily functions, breathing is the most natural and necessary for normal health.” “Correct breathing is absolutely essential not only for the maintenance of good health but also for the cure of many chronic diseases.” Wow! Did that make you take notice? If not, why not?

Did you know that El Morya said ‘If you knew how to breathe, you could make your ascension.’? So that seems to imply you need to know how to breathe. He also says this “Holy atmosphere and sacred fire breath will restore every cell of life within you.” POW Vol 33 No.13. What then is ‘sacred fire breath’ ? Thinking through it, perhaps it is the breath of the Holy Spirit and you can breathe it in by realizing the Holy Spirit is all around you.

It does take striving. An exercise in the book Creative Abundance by Elizabeth Clare Prophet, had a little exercise and it went like this – use your imagination to know the light of God is everywhere, all around you and breathe into every cell and atom of your body, into your fingers, your arms, your legs, your skeletal structure just EVERY part of your body. I did this and I have to witness it gave me so much energy that even though tired, I stayed up until past 2 o’clock in the morning. This was in the Dandenong mountains in Victoria while attending and SU there.

So, now, do you think the breath is important? It is certainly more important, than eating or drinking isn’t it? You can reasonably go for an hour without needing a drink of water, over three hours without needing food but then, try going without a breath for 2 minutes? It isn’t that easy is it? Go on try it! It seems that the one you can go the least without, is probably the most important activity.

Let’s get back to basics. The complete breath is very useful and it appears that this is the technique Mother uses for decree work.  You breathe into your abdomen/diaphragm and let it expand, then breathe into the middle region and finally into the chest without lifting the shoulders. Do the reverse to exhale. That is one complete breath. To have strict rhythm, you would need to set a time for the in-breath, a time for holding the breath in, a time for the exhalation and a time for the holding of the breath out. Djwal Kul in Intermediate Studies of the Human  Aura has a chapter devoted to the sacred fire breath and he also gives an exercise in breathing into the diaphragm and lungs for a count of eight, holding the air in there for a count of eight, exhaling to a count of eight and holding the diaphragm and lungs empty for a count of eight.

The most important thing is the application of the principles. Practice, practice, practice even if it doesn’t seem like you are getting anywhere. PRACTICE! The saying practice makes perfect may be truer than you think.

To your health.
